  • Download a beta version of Swype for Android

Windows Mobile fans should be familiar with Swype, the popular and new input method that graces the Samsung Omnia II.

When using Swype, you abandon the traditional method of hunt and peck and use a more natural swiping motion, running your fingers fluidly over the letters on the keyboard while the software predicts the correct word. The company behind Swype is developing an Android version which will be marketed to carriers and device manufacturers with the hope of integrating this novel keyboard into upcoming Android…

  • Rolling fireplace puts danger on the move

I love a good fireplace, but I hate having to move away from it to make myself a sandwich or use the bathroom. Thats why I love this rolling fireplace: I can roll it around with me wherever I go.

Sure, if it tips over or goes down some stair accidentally you might just burn your house down, but come on. Youre not some sort of klutz. I think the possibility of imminent danger makes this thing even cooler, anyways.

    Stylin Rooms…

SugarSync app gets an update, now at version 1.54

SugarSync is one of the favorite apps on my iPhone, partly because it acts as a backup for the files on my iMac and partly because it allows me to access those files (from my iPhone) while on the go. Sort of dual-featured in that respect. But that aside, the SugarSync team has been offering updates to include support for other devices and also making improvements to the currently available apps, such as the…

Apple to Drop AT&T Exclusivity for iPhone Wednesday?

Image via CrunchBase

A little insider birdie told HotHardware that Apples event on Wednesday may not just be about a new product launch, as they believe that Apple will announce that it is removing AT&Ts exclusivity on the iPhone in the US. No word as to what carriers are stepping up to offer iPhones so I guess youll be waiting until Wednesday for that detail.

This may not be all that surprising. Inside of AT&T, we are hearing that the iPhone is causing more…

Mysterious Palm smartphone pops up in WiFi certification database: is this Verizon’s Pre?

Look, let’s not beat around the bushes — Verizon Wireless will one day stock Palm’s Pre . It’s a rather well documented fact , and at this point the only real question is “when?” Judging by a mysterious Wi-Fi Certificate that just popped up, we’re beginning to think that the waiting period is nearly up, and with CES 2010 happening in a week, there’s hardly a better time for us to really start believing. If you’ll recall, Sprint’s Pre snagged a Wi-Fi Certificate number of P100EWW , and just this summer we spotted a few leaked Palm devices within VZW documents with “P101″ and “P121″ monikers; lo and behold, the certificate for this elusive dual-mode (WiFi and cellular) smartphone boasts a P101EWW label

Samsung’s former Chairman pardoned, again

You know what’s awesome about being the head of a South Korean chaebol?

Blio seeks to take digital reading in a new, more inclusive, and colorful direction

As if we didn’t have enough pretenders in the ebook space, here’s Ray Kurzweil with a new format of his own and a bagful of ambition to go with it. Set for a proper unveiling at CES in a week’s time, the Blio format and accompanying application are together intended to deliver true-to-life color reproductions of the way real books appear

Console scuttlebutt: multi-core CPU for next-gen PlayStation, Intel inside future Wii

We’re but three years removed from the US introduction of both Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 3, and already the rumors are running rampant about the future iterations of both consoles. Two separate reports from Japan’s Impress touch on both units, with speculation and insider information on the former suggesting that Intel could be in talks with the Big N about powering the second Wii. Hard details are obviously tough to come by, but word has it that the two are mulling a GPU / CPU combo similar to the Larrabee ; granted, we’d prefer something a touch more potent in the Wii 2, but we wouldn’t be shocked if Nintendo chooses the less powerful path yet again

Google Goggles gets video demo on Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

There’s little sense in resisting the obvious: Google is slowly but surely taking over your life , but rather than get indignant and discombobulated, we’d suggest letting go and appreciating how much easier things are with the folks in Mountain View squarely in control.

Camangi WebStation gets a few first impressions: ’sluggish’ and ‘confined’

Egad. We had such high hopes for the Camangi WebStation , but as with a few other non-phone devices that have attempted to use Android, it seems as if this 7-inch slate falls a bit short in practice. The gang over at Laptop was able to corral a unit for a brief sit-down, and while they admired the exceptionally light and portable hardware, they kvetched about the lowly 800 x 480 screen resolution, sluggish performance when opening applications and the limited / confined feel of the Camangi Marketplace.

Philips SA075 officially launched in Beijing, spotted in the wild

Hard to say exactly how many Earthlings (and Martians, for that matter) are jazzed about Philips’ forthcoming SA075 PMP, but it looks as if the wait for a ship date is drawing to a close. Over in Beijing, the player was recently showcased at a product launch party, and while a stateside release still hasn’t been talked about, it was confirmed that the HD playback will be capped at 720p (and not 1080p, as the unicorns and elves were hoping for). We’re also told that the display will boast an 800 x 480 resolution, an HDMI output will be onboard and at least a few gigabytes of storage will be included.

Cydle P29A spices up mundane spec sheet with Mobile TV capabilities

Well, it seems like South Korean companies aren’t fooling around when it comes to getting us riding that newly minted Mobile TV bandwagon. In the wake of LG announcing its first Mobile DTV devices this morning comes Cydle with the P29A PMP.

iPhone reception issues plague O2… too

It would appear that AT&T isn’t the only carrier in the world suffering from a horrible and nagging case of the iPhones . In an interview with the Financial Times , O2 head Ronan Dunne apologized to customers for the poor performance the network has been experiencing since the introduction of the iPhone to its airwaves this summer. Just as US customers (particularly those in dense, urban areas) have learned to struggle through dropped calls, the inability to make or receive calls, or weak data connections, our brethren on the other side of the pond have felt a similar sting

Vestax Spin DJ controller gets reviewed, much approved (video)

Bedroom DJs and wannabe Sven Vaths, take note. Key of Grey has got its hands on the Vestax Spin DJ controller and they give it some pretty good marks. Of course, no one is going to confuse this bad boy for a pro rig, but the reviewer found the hardware solid enough for home use, and the bundled Algoriddim djay software is more than up to the task

HTC Nexus One Bluetooth car dock hits the FCC; Nexus One trade name listed as ‘Google Phone’

The slow drip of Nexus One info continues at the FCC — just a day after we saw the Bluetooth desktop dock hit the database , the Bluetooth car dock we’d also seen floating around has turned up for inpection. And what’s this? The list of ancillary testing equipment used says the phone’s “trade name” is “Google Phone,” which is the first time we’ve seen that name used in a semi-official fashion
